Parental Rights Under Threat: Censorship, Trespass and Retaliation in Schools

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Something deeply troubling is spreading across the country in the fight for parents’ rights in education. Families are reporting incidents where they’ve been silenced, restricted, or even criminalized—simply for speaking up about their children’s education. Here are just a few of the disturbing cases we’ve received:

Case #1: Oregon Father Blocked from Advocating for His Child In a small Oregon district, a father raising concerns about his child’s special education services was told he could only speak to the Assistant Superintendent—the very person he had concerns about. His contact was restricted to once a week, and he was warned that if his emails were “too complex,” he would be trespassed from school property.

Case #2: Mother Falsely Accused, Cleared by Surveillance Footage In another district, a mother was falsely accused of threatening school staff and issued a trespass notice. She immediately contacted local law enforcement. After reviewing surveillance footage of the interaction, officers confirmed she had acted calmly and respectfully. The video completely disproved the school’s claim.

Case #3: Wyoming Father Arrested for Speaking at School Board Meeting In Wyoming, a father spoke at a school board meeting and referenced the Superintendent by name while addressing a past concern. The board chair abruptly adjourned the meeting and called law enforcement. Officers arrived at the school and arrested the father on the spot. But justice prevailed: he sued the district and won in court, with the judge ruling that his First Amendment right to free speech had been violated.

A Pattern of Intimidation and Overreach These incidents are not isolated. We're seeing this behavior especially in smaller, rural districts—places where officials may assume parents won’t push back. But families are pushing back. And the courts are starting to agree. Parents should never be punished, threatened, or silenced for standing up for their children. These stories show how critical it is to know your rights—and to defend them when necessary. If this has happened to you, you are not alone. We’re here to help.    Stay informed. Stay engaged.
